Network Engineer

The Arab Open University – Oman invites applications from suitably qualified Omani candidates for the position of Network Engineer.

Job Purpose

The Network Engineer will be responsible for the design, implementation, administration and continuous improvement of the University's network infrastructure and related services. The postholder will ensure the reliability, security and performance of the University's network environment while supporting strategic ICT initiatives and maintaining high standards of service delivery.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to:

• Design, implement, maintain and enhance the University's network infrastructure and associated services.
• Administer, configure and troubleshoot network and security technologies, including routers, switches, firewalls, wireless networks, intrusion prevention and detection systems (IPS/IDS), web filtering solutions, traffic management systems, IP telephony, network printing services, access control systems and CCTV infrastructure.
• Manage and optimise data centre networking environments, including Cisco Core Switches (C9600 Series).
• Deploy, maintain and secure campus and edge network infrastructure using Cisco Catalyst 9200 Series switches.
• Administer and optimise wireless network services through Cisco Wireless Controllers (C9800 Series).
• Support data centre security through the deployment and administration of next-generation firewall solutions.
• Manage centralised network security operations through Cisco Firepower Management Centre (FMC).
• Maintain comprehensive technical documentation relating to network architecture, configurations, incidents and resolutions.
• Undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade and nature of the post as assigned by the IT Director.

Essential Criteria

Applicants must:

• Be Omani nationals.
• Hold a Bachelor's degree in Network Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or a closely related discipline.
• Hold a valid Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification.
• Hold a CompTIA Network+ certification (N10-009) or equivalent.
• Possess a minimum of two years' relevant experience in the administration and support of enterprise-level network environments.
• Demonstrate proficiency in both Arabic and English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Desirable Criteria

Preference may be given to candidates who possess:

• Professional certifications in cybersecurity and network security.
• Advanced Cisco certifications and experience with Cisco technologies listed in this advertisement.
• Experience within higher education or similarly complex organisational environments.
