Prof. Mohammed Albadi Biography
Prof. Mohammed Albadi received a B.Sc. degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), Oman, in 2000; an M.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from Aachen University of Technology (RWTH-Aachen), Germany, in 2003; and a Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Waterloo (UWaterloo), Canada, in 2010. He is currently serving as the Rector of the Arab Open University in Oman. Previously, he worked as a Professor and Head of Electrical and Computer Engineering at SQU, a visiting Associate Professor at UWaterloo, and an Engineer at Petroleum Development Oman.
His research interests include renewable energy, distributed generation, power quality, demand-side management, power system operation and planning, and power system economics. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed international journal and conference articles in these fields and has conducted numerous industry-funded research projects. He has received several awards, including the SQU Best Researcher Award, the SQU Research Excellence Award, and the Best Paper Award at the IEEE IJEEE 2019, among others. Prof. Albadi was listed among the top 2% of Stanford University's most highly cited scholars six times for the years 2019-2024. In 2024, he received the Royal Commendation Order from His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik in appreciation of his contributions to research.
Prof. Albadi is an IEEE Senior Member and a member of the Oman Society of Engineers. Additionally, he has served as an associate editor for international peer-reviewed journals and as a reviewer for numerous international journals and conferences. He also serves as a program reviewer for the Ministry of Higher Education Research and Innovation (MoHERI), an external reviewer for the Oman Authority for Academic Accreditation and Quality of Education (OAAAQA), and a program evaluator for the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
