Program Objectives:
The Master's program in Law (Public or Private) at the Arab Open University aims to achieve the following goals:
- Creating an environment conducive to developing scientific abilities and directing them towards creativity and innovation in legal and professional sciences.
- Promoting legal scientific research, filling the gap in specialized legal research, and aligning with legislative and judicial developments within the Omani, regional, and international communities.
- Preparing and qualifying students for the next academic stage, the Ph.D. in Law, to be eligible to work in teaching at academic institutions.
- Equipping the Omani community with graduates who possess distinguished legal expertise and the ability to practice law efficiently.
- Providing students with future skills and job market competencies.
Credit Hours:
Track One: Thesis
The study plan consists of various courses, including the master's thesis, as follows:
- Successfully completing 18 credit hours of mandatory courses.
- Successfully completing at least 9 credit hours of elective courses.
- Preparing and successfully defending the master's thesis, which is allocated 6 credit hours.
The student must retake any mandatory course they fail; however, if they fail an elective course, they may take another elective in the same field according to the study plan.
Students may not register for the master's thesis in the Public/Private Law master's program until they have completed at least 18 credit hours, with the remaining hours to be completed during the thesis preparation period. Students may only apply to defend their thesis after completing all coursework with a minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0 (B).
Track Two: Comprehensive Exam
The study plan consists of courses followed by a comprehensive exam, as follows:
- Successfully completing 21 credit hours of mandatory courses.
- Successfully completing 12 credit hours of elective courses.
- Passing the comprehensive exam after completing all study plan courses.
Program Duration: Two years.
