Research Key Activities

To meet the research strategic objectives, the research and development committee has introduced some long term research activities to be implemented in Oman branch. The idea of these activities is based on the active contribution of both faculty members and students in different programs.

Research Seminar

  • Events held by academic programs
  • Organized by research committee
  • Held for staff and interested students
  • Discussing research ideas in different disciplines especially that relates to open and blended learning practices as well as research issues
  • Aims to promote research culture among the branch

Research Groups (Knowledge building communities)

Research teams are a good example for Knowledge building communities who share a common goal of building meaningful knowledge representations through activities, projects and discussion and the tutor is an active, learning participant in the community. A common goal of knowledge building communities is to advance and share the knowledge of the collective.

Process

  • Faculty members start by creating research groups among the branch in different disciplines.
  • Such groups are composed of volunteered students (preferred who possess good level in English and good writing skills).
  • Every group is led by a Faculty member or more.
  • The aim of the groups is to develop the students’ ability to read, criticize, and write a research paper.
  • Students’ produced work within groups including (completed research papers, papers in progress, and ideas) will be presented in the students’ annual conference.
  • Students’ work led by Faculty members can be presented in research seminars.
  • A best paper award would be announced.
  • Different groups can work on applying for research projects fund from the TRC or similar organizations.

Students’ Conference (Young Researchers)

It is a multidisciplinary annual conference organized by the AOU Oman branch. Targeted students are:

  • Post graduate students in Education and Business programs.
  • Students doing their projects in other programs.
  • AOU Alumni graduated from Master programs during the past three years.
  • Other institutions’ PhD and MA students or Alumni within the past three years.

The event will be an opportunity for students to develop their research skills.

Aims

  • Engage students in research activities.
  • Develop students’ skills in preparing research reports, presenting their ideas, and organizing conferences.
  • Encourage Faculty members to create research groups and engage with their students in research activities.
  • Create a research environment among the Branch.
  • Proceedings can be published.

General Branch Conference

It is a multidisciplinary annual conference organized by the AOU Oman branch. All faculty members are encouraged to submit papers to the conference, as well as researchers from outside AOU.

Aims

  • Engage faculty members in research activities.
  • Create a research environment among the Branch.
  • Proceedings can be published.
