The Foundation Studies Unit conducts staff induction and orientation for Spring 22
A formal induction and orientation session were conducted for both full time and part time staff of the Foundation Studies Unit on 9th February 2022 for the second semester of the academic year 2021-2022.
Prof. Mohammed AlBadi, the Rector AOU Oman gave the welcome note and emphasized that FSU plays a pivotal role in keeping students motivated to excel in their academic life by giving them adequate academic support and services. The importance of teamwork among tutors was also stressed. Dr Mohammed Hazaizi, Assistant Director for Academic Affairs addressed the gathering and stressed upon total commitment towards teaching and dissemination of responsibilities. Certificate of appreciation was presented to academic staff who participated in professional development seminars held in the previous semester. The orientation given by Ms. Ansa Sathyadas, Head of the Foundation Studies Unit (Acting), general and academic information required to enhance the teaching quality to make learning an experience for students. Emphasis was laid on the importance of student inductions, and other services that students can avail of to improve their academic performance. Tutors were reminded of important events at the Foundation Studies Unit for the semester that included professional development seminars, meetings, and other activities. Academics involved in the action research based on the FSU operational plan were reminded to submit a time frame for the successful completion of the action research this semester.
The Assistant Head of the Foundation Studies Unit (English), Mr Abdulla AlRiyami introduced the Internal Academic Advising Committee and its members. Ms Wided Labidi announced the Professional Development Plan for the upcoming semester. As a member of the Health and Safety Committee, Ms Uhood AlShabibi briefed the safety protocols that all staff should follow during tutorials. Course coordinators, Ms. Kremena Krumova, Mr Abdulla AlRiyami, Mr Mohammed AlNaemi, Ms. Ansa Sathyadas, Ms. Latha Sundrajan and Ms Uhood AlShabibi and Ms Salima Al Barwani had discussions with their tutors about courses.
